Additionally, since January 2024, most international students (except those on research-based postgraduate programs/PhDs) can no longer bring dependents to the UK.
1. University Application & IELTS
Month 1-3 (Oct - Jan)
Duration: 12 Weeks
Status: Preparation
- Apply via UCAS (Undergrad) or directly to the University portal (Postgrad).
- Take IELTS Academic: Typically 6.0 for Undergrad and 6.5 for Masters (no band below 5.5/6.0).
- Submit Statement of Purpose (SOP) and Academic References.
- Outcome: Receive a 'Conditional Offer' (pending grades or IELTS) or 'Unconditional Offer'.
Critical Points:
- deadlines: UCAS deadline is usually late January. Postgrad deadlines vary but most close by June/July for September intake.
- application fee: UCAS is approx. £28.50. Most Postgrad applications are free, but some top universities charge £50-£100.
2. Offer Acceptance & Pre-CAS Interview

3. TB Test & Financials (The 28-Day Rule)

- Book and attend a TB (Tuberculosis) test at an IOM-approved clinic in Pakistan (Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, or Mirpur).
- Bank Statement: Deposit the maintenance funds into your account. For 2026, required funds are: £1,334/month (London) or £1,023/month (Outside London) for 9 months.
- Wait 28 consecutive days. The balance must NOT drop even by 1 PKR below the required amount during this time.

- tb test validity: 6 months. Cost is approx. 14,000 - 15,000 PKR.
- total funds: Approx. £9,207 (Outside London) + remaining 1st-year tuition fees.
4. CAS Issuance & Visa Submission
Month 6-7 (June - July)
Duration: 2 Weeks
Status: Visa Application
- Receive your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) number from the university.
- Complete the online UK Student Visa application (GOV.UK).
- Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS): £776 per year of study.
- Pay the Visa Fee: Approx. £490 (payable in PKR).
Critical Points:
- cas validity: A CAS is only valid for 6 months. You cannot apply for a visa more than 6 months before your course starts.
- ihs payment: You must pay the IHS for the entire duration of your visa upfront (e.g., a 1-year Master's often requires 1.5 years of IHS due to the 4-month post-study period).
5. Biometrics & Credibility Interview
Month 7-8 (July - August)
Duration: 3 Weeks
Status: Evaluation
- Book and attend your biometrics appointment at VFS Global (Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, or Mirpur).
- Be prepared for a second 'Credibility Interview' by a Home Office officer via video link if requested.
- Processing Time: Standard is 15 working days; Priority is 5 working days.
